| Panalpina celebrates the opening of its new logistics complex in Singapore | 02/12/2009
| The new Distribution and Logistics Center was formally inaugurated by Panalpina CEO Monika Ribar, whose speech of welcome highlighted the great strategic importance of Singapore to the Panalpina Group – in the future as in the past. |
 |
 | The new complex has a total area of 11,277 square meters, of which a warehouse – designed to meet a variety of customer requirements – accounts for 8,546 m2. Fitted with the latest equipment, the warehouse guarantees ideal storage conditions and offers first-class logistics facilities. It also functions as a distribution centre for clients representing the group’s various industry verticals: chemicals and pharmaceuticals (healthcare), the high-tech sector and telecommunications. The newly-opened office and warehouse building also meets all the latest security requirements. It is officially certified in accordance with the STP (Secure Trade Partnership).
The new logistics complex is situated in the immediate vicinity of Changi international airport. With easy access via arterial highways, it complements Panalpina's existing offices covering air freight, ocean freight and other logistical services. The new facility also constitutes a central interface with Asia, enabling Panalpina to extend its portfolio of Supply Chain Management services throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Great strategic importance The Singapore authorities are also delighted with the new Panalpina facility – as Mr Tan Choon Shian, Assistant Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board, emphasized. "We warmly welcome Panalpina's expansion in Singapore, and believe our excellent connectivity and world-class infrastructure will enhance Panalpina's ability to harness Asia's growth potential." In his speech Mr Tan also pointed out that "Singapore is working closely with companies to retain and train their talent base, so that companies in Singapore will be well positioned for the economic upturn". For her part, Panalpina CEO Monika Ribar stressed Panalpina's intention of maintaining its commitment to Singapore without interruption – and indeed to strengthen it, as the construction of the new complex showed. "This facility", she declared, "is more than just another warehouse. It is also a signal that we are ready to offer our customers top-quality services and infrastructure – wherever and whenever they need them."
